Fall Impressions and a few Emmy thoughts

Here are my initial thoughts about the new and returning fall shows:
Of all the "Lost" clones, I think I've been most entertained by "Supernatural." It's creepy, popcorn fair. I'm not sure I care about the people on "Invasion" much, and I like the characters on "Threshold," quite a bit, the ensamble is excellent, but the scenario is actually feeling worn out after 2 episodes. In fact, I liked them all at least a little bit, until "Lost" premired, and I realized they are all faint imitators. "Lost" is still vastly superior to all of them, and was, even from the pilot.
I like "Bones," but haven't watched much. I've got a backload of tape. "Gilmore Girls" is still wonderful, but, I'm not sure how much longer I can take the warring Loreleis. I'm lukewarm about "How I met your Mother." It's better than Joey, but, no where near as reliable a laugh as "Arrested Development." I've not yet gotten to the "Kitchen Confidential" tape. I liked "Everybody Hates Chris." I missed "Surface" and "Commander-in-Chief." I had the time wrong.
I'm really looking forward to "Veronica Mars' " premire tomorrow, and "Alias" will be back on Thursday.
Oh? And, while I'm only 4 episodes into season 2 of Battlestar Galactica, this show remains awesome. It's really fantastic.
Also, while I was, on the whole, annoyed by the Emmys, a few things were highly cool. I was so sure that David Fury was going to win the writing award, I was celebrating from the announcement that "David... Shore" had won. I was confused when the person that was *not* David Fury was going up, and then realized the annoying truth.
Kristen Bell? She did a great job on the Idol thing, but, was robbed. She's so talented. UPN will be rebroadcasting the new episodes of VM on the weekends, so that those who are watching "Lost" can keep up. Nice of them, honestly.
What struck me, when "Lost" won the best drama award, was that this was the first time those faces on the stage were as familiar to me as when an actor wins. These weren't unidentifyable "non-entities" to me, and that was kinda cool. I could identify each of those folks, and having spent time posting with at least a few of them, I felt like I knew them, and I was excited for their win, as if my friends were the winners, not someone anonymous. My sister thought I was nuts as I said, "look, there's Javi, and Fury, and Carlton, and Sarah, and J.J..." I stopped after that, since she thought *that* was a bit creepy, and gave me a look.
The one other thing that pleased me, and I'll stop after that, since I've rambled too much, and there was too much I *didn't* like about the Emmys, and I'm just not going to talk about that, was Felicity Huffman's win. Marcia Cross would've been a plesant surprise, too, but, I'm glad it was Huffman, and while Teri Hatcher's great, those two ladies beat her.

For me, after that point, I stopped caring. Not all was revealed, but enough that the mystery was kind of sucked out of it.
Anyway, I know the Floyds were not big on Carnivale, so clearly our tastes do not always cross paths, so you might like it. But if you take my advice, put it lower on the priority list.

Date: 2005-09-28 04:02 pm (UTC)Netflix is *totally* the way to watch TV. I'd recommend Alias, Gilmore Girls and Lost, Veronica Mars comes out next month.
There's also always, of course, Buffy and Angel. (Yeah, I know, may not be your cup of tea.) I'm planning on getting the Collector's edition in November, and then my current set will be the "lending set" which, you're welcome to borrow, too.
