The Ongoing Saga
Jun. 3rd, 2008 01:41 pmSometimes I feel like I'm in some kind of soap opera, or that I've wandered into some state of hyper reality that does not exist in the rational world.
Yeah.
So, I got the other estimate. The range of prices went from $11,000 to $47,000. After scraping my jaw off the floor, I called my uncle Roger, who, aside from having a fez, has, apparently, replaced three rooves on three different properties in the last 5 years. He's giving me a good deal of tips, and guesses a range of $8000-$9600, based on the type of roofing material he likes and recommends. He's going to give me the names of his people, and we'll try this again.
On Sunday, I got the "black" screen of death. That is, my laptop screen has a pall of death, not the computer. I called Dell. (still under warrenty) and their tech, who clearly thought I was crazy, insisted it was the video card. I said, "I don't think it is. I'm pretty sure it's the LCD screen." The tech came to replace the video card today. He replaced it. Turned it on. Screen is black. He asked me if this is what it had been doing. I said "Yes." He said, "I think the LCD screen needs replaced." I said "That's what I told them." Yeah. New screen should be here tomorrow. Currently, laptop hooked to external monitor.
And, I guess I'm going to be in Iowa the second week in July. My Dad decided I needed to meet the new nephew.
Yeah.
